Responsible for the assembling tax-related information, and preparation of complex tax returns for reporting to taxation authorities at the federal, state, and local levels in a timely manner.
Characteristic duties include, but are not limited to preparing federal, state, and local tax documents such as federal, state, and municipal returns, extensions, and quarterly payments, preparing federal, state and local notice resolutions, preparing tax provision and accrual schedules, and may assist with the review of property tax, sales tax, business tax and hotel occupancy tax returns. Suggest and implement as requested revised tax compliance procedures.
Duties and responsibilities
Communicate with University departments regarding information provided for the preparation of IRS Form 990 or Form 990-T and state and local tax filings for Vanderbilt University.
Prepare IRS Form 990 or Form 990-T for Vanderbilt University in a complete, accurate, and timely manner ensuring compliance with all appropriate rules, regulations and disclosures.
Prepare IRS Forms 8865, 926, 8802, 8821, 720, 4720, and FinCEN 114.
Respond to notices from the IRS and various tax authorities regarding tax matters.
Prepare various tax accruals.
Assist with preparation or review of state and local tax returns and workpapers such as sales tax, business tax, property tax, and unclaimed property.
Work in collaboration with management to develop necessary policies, procedures, and reporting systems for Vanderbilt University, to ensure federal, state and local tax compliance.
Perform other tax related responsibilities as requested.
Profile ofan Ideal Candidate
A Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in tax compliance is required. CPA or CPA candidate is strongly preferred. Minimum of 4 years' non-profit tax compliance experience including experience preparing Forms 990 or 990-T is strongly preferred. Experience with Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Access) is preferred. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced, deadline driven environment is preferred.
Strong analytic, technical, written and oral communication, decision making and problem solving skills and the ability to work successfully with management, faculty, staff and students is preferred.
